Standard microneedling, radiofrequency microneedling and procedures that add another product are not interchangeable. Ask exactly what is being proposed before comparing prices, expected results or recovery.
Standard microneedling
A needle device creates small punctures in the skin. Potential risks include discomfort, bleeding, bruising, infection and pigment changes. Ask about the device, its intended use, infection-control procedures and whether a new needle cartridge is used for each session.
Radiofrequency microneedling
Radiofrequency microneedling also delivers energy into tissue. It needs a separate discussion of device settings, practitioner training and risks. In October 2025, the US FDA reported serious complications with certain uses, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage.
See the FDA safety communication. This is US safety information, not a statement about Australian authorisation or a particular device at this clinic.
Combination procedures
If another procedure or product is proposed alongside microneedling, ask for its name, purpose, supporting evidence and additional risks. A combination should not be assumed to work better simply because it includes more steps or costs more.
Questions for a meaningful comparison
- Which exact technique and device are proposed?
- What evidence relates to my concern and skin type?
- What risks and recovery requirements differ between the options?
- What would the total cost include?
- How would a complication be managed?
The FDA’s general device information describes limitations and risks. Discuss the Australian device information and your individual suitability with your practitioner.
