A neurotoxin is injected into the targeted areas weakening part of the muscles that relax the muscle involved which reduces the appearance of those lines. The neurotoxin leads to a temporary paralysis of parts of the muscle which leads to a significant reduction in wrinkle lines, especially those more prominent with facial expressions.
