Microneedling vs Microdermabrasion

Flawless Aesthetics Clinic is here to help provide you with more education about your skin and available treatments to help you wake up feeling flawless. To learn more about how these treatments can work for you, keep reading below.

Rejuvenated skin – whether it’s from wrinkles and age spots, scarring and pigmentation, or damage from the Australian sun we all love, needs persistent effort. Topical creams and lotions do have benefits, but to get the most out of any product, it needs to be given a chance to absorb into the skin. Generating new cells not only ramps up collagen production, but also maximizes the gains from a good moisturizer.

Sometimes it’s not necessary to have invasive procedures to rectify those small flaws that are low-hanging fruit but still cause some concern. Even the more intensive non-invasive skin treatments still do feel a bit invasive, but standard home face masks aren’t giving the results you would like to see. These two cosmetic procedures fill in that gap, but in different ways. Both procedures ultimately leave your skin rejuvenated with a noticeable glow.

How long does it take to see the results?

The results generally tend to peak at 2- 4 weeks.

How long do anti-wrinkle treatment effects last?

Results generally tend to last 3- 4 months on average, and sometimes up to 6 months. This may change according to the area being treated, the dosage and the individuals response to the neurotoxin.

How much pain is involved?

Minimal pain is generally associated with anti wrinkle treatments, and if you are ever too concerned with the pain we can always use a topical anaesthetics.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that addresses the texture of the skin.

A microneedling session involves a handheld device that contains many little needle tips – so if you’re not a fan of needles, you may prefer to scroll down to microdermabrasion – or embrace the challenge to overcome your fears with a treatment that is only a little bit uncomfortable, and involves a lot of numbing creams, in case the tiny pricks get the better of you momentarily.

The technique is suitable for alopecia, rosacea, and scarring, and also for improving the appearance of stretch marks and loose skin that hangs around after weight loss. The sterile needles cause small punctures, which prompt the skin cells into rebuilding a new and healthier structure while depositing pharmaceutical balms under the surface of the skin. In this regrowth, collagen production increases rapidly.

Unfortunately, microneedling can’t be done if :

  • There are any active local skin infections
  • Keloid scarring is present
  • Acne is still active

Microdermabrasion

  • Our skin grows and exfoliates naturally – almost like a snake sheds its skin, but far less dramatically. Instead of shedding, microdermabrasion removes the surface skin layers – or stratum corneum, to reveal the newer layers that lie below, as new cells grow. The newly polished skin surface is far more elastic and is loaded with collagen.

A minimally invasive procedure, a microdermabrasion treatment can be done in a lunch break, gently sanding down skin cells. With mild side effects such as tenderness that recedes within a few hours, microdermabrasion helps the skin cells to generate much faster than they would naturally. Consider this to be an exfoliation – but with added benefits.

Acne scarring, melasma, UV damage, wrinkles, and even plain dull-looking skin benefit from microdermabrasion. The procedure works on superficial flaws and can also be used to remove tattoos that you no longer love or need. Hyper-pigmentation also responds exceptionally well to microdermabrasion and it is suitable for all skin colors.

Please remember that there are certain things to do before the procedure. These are :

    One week before treatment :

      • No tanning of the treatment area and sun exposure should be avoided
      • Don’t wax the targeted are

    Three days before treatment :

      • No exfoliating should be done
      • Don’t use any masks on the area where we will be applying microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion offers so many benefits that it is tempting to do it at home. Unfortunately, home treatments rarely have the same result as therapist treatments – and often have some nasty side effects.
