These questions can help you prepare for a consultation about your noseโs appearance. If your concern includes breathing difficulty, an injury or another medical symptom, tell the practitioner so the appropriate assessment can be discussed.
What happens at a consultation?
You can explain your concerns and expectations, discuss your health and previous procedures, and ask what assessments or options may be relevant. You can also decide that you do not want a procedure.
What information should I bring?
Bring details of your medicines, allergies, medical conditions, previous nose injuries, surgery and cosmetic procedures. If you have records from a previous procedure, ask whether these would be useful.
Can a non-surgical procedure show me what surgery would look like?
Do not treat a non-surgical procedure as a reliable preview of surgery. Ask the practitioner to explain the differences and limitations of any options being discussed. A surgical assessment is a separate process.
Can I be told the result before an assessment?
No particular outcome can be promised from an online enquiry or photograph. Ask what can realistically be assessed, what remains uncertain and whether another opinion would be useful.
What should I ask about discomfort and recovery?
Ask about discomfort during and after the specific procedure, possible complications, activity restrictions and the contact arrangements for concerns. Avoid assuming that everyone will have mild symptoms or recover within the same timeframe.
What if I am considering surgery later?
Discuss that intention before deciding on any other procedure. Share your complete treatment history with the clinician conducting the surgical assessment and ask whether previous procedures affect planning.
How can I check a practitioner?
Check their current registration through Ahpra and ask about their training and experience relevant to the assessment or procedure. Read Ahpraโs independent guidance and Healthdirectโs rhinoplasty information.
