Nasal Tip Concerns: Preparing for an Assessment

Practitioner in a white shirt examining a womanโ€™s face

If the position or shape of your nasal tip concerns you, a consultation can help clarify what you are noticing and which assessment may be appropriate. A photograph or an online description cannot determine whether a procedure is suitable.

Describe what you would like assessed

Explain whether your concern is longstanding or a recent change, whether it is noticeable at rest or during facial movement, and whether you have any breathing symptoms. Mention previous injuries, nose surgery and cosmetic procedures, even if they happened years ago.

You do not need to arrive with a treatment selected. Bring questions about your concern rather than expecting the practitioner to reproduce another personโ€™s appearance.

Separate appearance from function

A concern about the nasal tipโ€™s appearance is different from a breathing problem. If you have persistent nasal obstruction or symptoms following an injury, seek medical assessment. Your GP can help you identify the appropriate clinician.

Understand the limits of any proposed option

Ask what an option can change, what it cannot change and why it is being proposed for you. Do not assume that a non-surgical procedure can achieve a surgical result, that a temporary effect means there is no lasting risk, or that an unwanted result can always be reversed.

  • What findings from my assessment support this recommendation?
  • What are the potential complications and how would they be managed?
  • What alternatives should I consider, including no procedure?
  • What preparation, recovery and follow-up would be needed?

Decide after the assessment

Take time to consider the information and ask further questions. A consultation does not commit you to a procedure or guarantee a particular outcome.
