If you are considering a change to your nose, start by explaining your concerns to an appropriately qualified practitioner. A cosmetic preference, breathing difficulty and a change after an injury may need different assessments. Having a feature you dislike does not mean you need a procedure.
Start with the concern, not a procedure
Explain whether your concern relates to appearance, breathing or both. Mention previous injuries, surgery and cosmetic procedures. If you have breathing problems, ask your GP about an appropriate medical assessment rather than choosing a cosmetic appointment based on advertising.
Surgical and non-surgical procedures are different
Rhinoplasty is surgery that changes the shape or structure of the nose. Its suitability, risks and recovery require an individual surgical assessment. A non-surgical cosmetic procedure should not be assumed to offer the same changes or address the same concerns.
Do not use claims about a quick appointment, low price or short recovery as evidence that an option is appropriate for you. Ask what it can and cannot change, and whether no procedure or a different assessment would be preferable.
Ask about risks and recovery
All cosmetic procedures involve risks. Ask about both common side effects and serious complications, how complications are managed, and who will provide follow-up care. Recovery varies; a short appointment does not guarantee a short recovery.
- What are the limits of the proposed procedure for my concern?
- How do my health and previous procedures affect suitability?
- What time away from work or other activities might be needed?
- What are the total costs, including review or additional care?
- Who can I contact if I have concerns afterwards?
Take time to decide
Ask for written information and time to consider it. You can choose not to proceed or seek another opinion. A consultation does not guarantee suitability or a particular result.
