If you are concerned about your nose, start by identifying what you want assessed: appearance, breathing, a previous injury or a change after an earlier procedure. These concerns can need different types of medical review.
Start with symptoms and history
Tell your GP about breathing difficulties, nasal blockage, previous surgery or injury. A cosmetic appointment should not replace assessment of a functional problem. Your GP can discuss whether specialist review is appropriate.
Discuss appearance without choosing a procedure first
Describe the feature that concerns you and the change you are hoping for. Ask what can realistically be assessed at the appointment and whether your goals would require a different specialist. A consultation may lead to advice against a procedure.
Compare complete care plans
Ask about the proposed procedure, its limitations, significant risks, recovery, follow-up and total costs. A short appointment or a lower initial price does not establish that an option is suitable or low risk. Choosing not to proceed is also an option.
Prepare for your appointment
Bring your medical history, medicines list and details of previous nose procedures. Write down your questions and take time to consider the answers before deciding.
