A consultation about facial proportions should focus on your concerns, health and expectations. A measurement, diagram or comparison with another person cannot establish whether a cosmetic procedure is appropriate for you.
Describe your concern in your own words
Explain what you have noticed, how long it has concerned you and what you hope to understand. You do not need to choose a procedure before the appointment. Tell the practitioner about previous facial procedures and any unwanted effects.
Ask how the assessment informs advice
If measurements or photographs are used, ask what they show and what their limitations are. They should support a discussion, not a promise that a particular proportion or appearance can be achieved.
Discuss expectations and uncertainty
Ask which changes may be feasible, which are not, and why the practitioner considers an option suitable or unsuitable. A photograph of someone else does not predict your result. The assessment may lead to a recommendation against treatment or a referral for another opinion.
Make an informed choice
Before agreeing to a procedure, discuss its risks, alternatives, recovery, aftercare and full costs. Ask who is responsible for follow-up and complications. Take time to consider the information; choosing not to proceed is a valid outcome.
What facial proportion means in an assessment
Practitioners often look at how features relate to each other, such as the forehead, cheeks, nose, lips and jawline, and how they change with expression and from different angles. There is no single ideal face, and proportions vary naturally with age, heritage and individual features.
Bring the right information
- A list of medicines, supplements and allergies
- Details of any previous cosmetic procedures, including the product and date if known
- Older photos of yourself, if relevant to your concern
- Your questions, written down
Options may include no procedure
After an assessment, a practitioner may discuss skin treatments, a medical consultation about cosmetic options, referral elsewhere, or simply monitoring. A good consultation explains why an option is or is not recommended and never pressures you to proceed.
